Causes of Moral Decline and Their Remedies in the Light of Islamic Teachings: A Research Study
اخلاقی زوال کے اسباب اور اسلامی تعلیمات کی روشنی میں ان کا حل:ایک تحقیقی جائزہ
Abstract
Morality constitutes the true identity of every individual, society, and civilization. When a society is adorned with high moral values, it promotes peace, justice, honesty, mutual respect, and social stability. However, when moral principles weaken, social disorder, corruption, oppression, moral deviation, intolerance, and mutual hatred begin to prevail. Despite remarkable scientific progress, technological advancements, and material prosperity in the modern age, many societies around the world are facing a serious moral crisis. The weakening of the family system, selfishness, materialism, the negative use of social media, detachment from religious teachings, and the blind imitation of Western culture have further intensified moral decline. Islam is a complete code of life that provides comprehensive and balanced guidance for every aspect of human spiritual, personal, and social life. The Holy Qur'an and the Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ place extraordinary emphasis on morality and regard noble character as an essential component of faith and a fundamental means of achieving individual and social well-being. The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ explicitly declared that one of the primary objectives of his mission was the perfection of noble moral character, highlighting that the foundation of an Islamic society rests upon sound ethical values. This research study examines the major causes of moral decline, analyzes their social consequences, and presents effective remedies in the light of the Qur'an and Sunnah. It aims to demonstrate that Islamic teachings not only diagnose the causes of moral deterioration but also provide a comprehensive and practical framework for moral reform, character building, strengthening the family institution, and ensuring the stability and prosperity of society.
